2011 WRAP UP

We had a great baeball season this year including a very successful 3 weeks of Fall Baseball highlighted by Jeremy Guthrie's visit to put on a skills clinic. Thanks everyone for for your support throughout the course of the entire year. None of it would be possible without you all.

That said its never too early to start thinking about 2012 and next season.
- We have the equipment and uniforms ordered and are pretty much ready to go to the printers with them.
- As usual we have February penciled in to get things started with our clinic day and team selection (stay tuned for exact details).
- We'll look to get started with the season and regular weekly games in March.
- Please help spread the baseball word. We're always looking for new recruits.

Let me wish you all a happy holiday season, safe travels to those that will be on trains planes or aoutomobiles, and a happy healthy 2012.

Catch you all soon....

THE CLINIC

I'm sure everyone agrees what a great day Saturday was, and how inspirational Jeremy's talk and instruction was. It was a living example of how baseball is so much more than just a game. The importance of perseverance, determination, good values, and keeping ones priorities in order were perfectly demonstrated. Keeping our eye on the ball and staying focused is as important in life as it is in baseball. And above all else BELIEVE IN YOURSELF !

We'll have pick up games again this Saturday Oct 29, so that amongst other thiings we can all practice our newly learned techinque of how to properly throw a curve ball. The schedule looks like this:
13:00-14:30 Coach Pitch
14:30-16:00 Machine Pitch
16:00-17:30 Senior Kid

Hope to see you all there. Dress warm....

OCTOBER BASEBALL

Great news- We have things finalized for 3 weeks of Fall Baseball, and this is how its going to play out.

Saturday Oct 15- Pick up games. Please come at the assigned times depending on what level you played at during the season. We choose teams. We play.
13:00-14:30 Coach Pitch
14:30-16:00 Machine Pitch
16:00-17:30 Senior Kid Pitch

Saturday Oct 22- Clinic. We have the extremely good fortune to have Jeremy Guthrie who pitches for the Baltimore Orioles coming out to put on a baseball skills clinic the afternoon of the 22nd. The on field participation will be for kids that were in Machine Pitch or Senior Kid Pitch last season. Unfortunately due to time and numbers limitations the Coach Pitch Kids will only be able to observe, and listen to Jeremy's speech.
12:30- Arrive. Rain or Shine.
13:00- Jeremy will give a short 15 minute introduction to the clinic on what he intends to cover.
13:15- We move to the baseball field where Jeremy will share his expertise with us on pitching, catching, and hitting.
15:15- Jeremy will give a talk to wrap up and share his personal baseball/life philosophy with us, and open things up for Q&A and autographs.

Saturday Oct 29- More Pick up games to try out our newly aquired skills. Same times as the 15th. Same place. Same M.O.
13:00-14:30 Coach Pitch
14:30-16:00 Machine Pitch
16:00-17:30 Senior Kid Pitch

I can't wait. Hope to see you all then and there....

For Saturday June 11

A few things as we get into the last week of the season:

- This is really important. There was an accident up on the football field away from the baseball field during one of the games. Its imperative that we don't leave any bats laying around or allow kids to play with them away from the baseball field without direct eyes on, adult supervision.

- On a more celebratory note, I know many of you are planning end of the season parties to mark your teams accomplishments this season. We did a great job in keeping the track and field area clean and free of food and garbage all season thanks to you all. This has helped immensely in winning over the confidence of the school in allowing to continue the snack shack operations. As such, if we could have the team festivities off the main field area down by the picnic tables that would be great. You all are welcome to bring anything you want to eat or drink. I'll have the BBQ down in that area for anyone that wants to use it. Please make sure you bring charcoals and cooking utensils though as we don't have any left from the past few weeks.

- The playoffs were really exciting. It was somewhat of a disappointment that one of the teams had difficulty in fielding a team. It really highlights though the importance of commitment to a team. When the numbers are tight like they were this year if just a couple kids don't show up it has an impact on the 15 or so others that do.... In any case I congratulate all the teams for being good sports.

- This week its the finals, and here's the schedule:
10:00 Tee Ball Astros vs Pirates.
11:00 Coach Pitch Phillies vs Tigers.
12:30 Coach Pitch A's vs Orioles.
14:00 Junior Kid Nationals vs Diamondbacks.
15:30 Junior Kid Royals vs Braves.
17:00 Senior Kid Cardinals vs Brewers.

I hope you all will be out there this Saturday for our last games of the season. Maybe try and come a little early to see how Jake has run the tee ball this year to enhance their enjoyment, or how much the Coach Pitch kids have progressed. Or even stay a little bit later to see how good the Junior Kids can hit and field now, or hang around at the end of the day to watch the Seniors. These kids play hard and they play good.

In next weeks post I'll try and get around to posting a lot of the pictures you all have been sending so don't sign off just yet...

Thanks

Baseball Saturday June 4

- Thanks everyone for the flexibility on Saturday and managing to work both Baseball and the Scouts camping trip into the weekend. Its much appreciated.
- Thanks Seniors for the great game against Villabilla. I apologize for the limited playing time for everyone but we had to do the best we could given the numbers involved.
- And here's the schedule for this week. This Saturday will start the playoff portion of the schedule. Its been a great season and all teams have improved dramatically since the start of the season. The balance of the teams should provide some really good games this weekend.
10:00 Tee Ball Pirates vs Astros.
11:00 Coach Pitch Tigers vs A's.
12:30 Coach Pitch Orioles vs Phillies.
14:00 Junior Kid Braves vs Nationals.

See you all on Saturday.

Baseball News and Info for Saturday May 28

- Fortunately for some and unfortunately for others there is a Boy Scout camping trip that conflicts with the baseball schedule. Its very important that if you're not on the camping trip that you make every effort to please be at your game. To fill in the gaps we'll ask a few Tee Ballers if they want to try the playing at the Coach Pitch level, and maybe a few of the Coach Pitch kids from the first game can stay and play in the second game.
- Seniors this week will play against a visiting team from Villabilla. I hope you all might want to stay around and watch the game and support our team. Game starts at 17:00. We'll play for a little extra time as well so that we can hopefully get everyone a chance to play.
- We will finalize the matchups and game times for June 4 this Saturday and let you all know asap.

And here's the schedule for this week:
10:00 Tee Ball Astros vs Pirates.
11:00 Coach Pitch Phillies vs Orioles.
12:30 Coach Pitch A's vs Tigers.
14:00 Junior Kid Diamondbacks vs Braves.
15:30 Junior Kid Nationals vs Royals.
17:00 Senior Kid Villabilla vs Madrid League Baseball Seniors.

Thanks and see you all on Saturday.

Baseball for Saturday May 21 and more....

- Unlucky for the Seniors again last weekend with the rain that came late in the afternoon.
- For the Seniors we are still trying to schedule a game with Villabilla. The game would be Saturday the 28th. To be confirmed....
- Speaking of May 28th, I am aware that there is a Boy Scout camping event that weekend. We will go ahead with our games as scheduled, although probably with reduced numbers on some of the Coach Pitch teams.
- As hard as it is to believe the end of the school year and our baseball season is fast approaching. The last weekend for baseball will be June 11. We will determine a ranking of the teams and start our playoffs June 4 and finish June 11. Game times for June 4th and June 11 are to be determined.

And here's the schedule for this week Saturday May 21:
10:00 Tee Ball Pirates vs Astros.
11:00 Coach Pitch Phillies vs A's.
12:30 Coach Pitch Orioles vs Tigers.
14:00 Junior Kid Diamondbacks vs Nationals.
15:30 Junior Kid Braves vs Royals.
17:00 Senior Kid Brewers vs Cardinals.

Thanks and look forward to seeing you all this weekend.

Baseball For Saturday May 14

- Unfortunately we were unlucky with the rain last Saturday, but hopefully the good weather holds for this weekend.
- Thanks to everyone that came out for the parents game on Sunday. It was good fun, there was some awesome hitting, good fielding (who would of thought?), and plenty of sore muscles on Monday I'm sure....
- I've been informed that there will be a Boy Scout campout Saturday the 28th. Please inform your coaches if you will not be at the baseball that day. If necessary we will look to combine teams and adjust some game times.
- And here's the schedule for this Saturday the 14th:
10:00 Tee Ball Astros vs Pirates.
11:00 Coach Pitch Orioles vs A's.
12:30 Coach Pitch Phillies vs Tigers.
14:00 Junior Kid Braves vs Nationals.
15:30 Junior Kid Diamondbacks vs Royals.
17:00 Senior Kid Cardinals vs Brewers.

See you all this Saturday !

Baseball for May 7 Weekend

- This Sunday May 8th is the parents game. Please plan on arriving around 14:30 so we can get ourselves organized and start around 15:00. Hopefully the weather will cooperate....
- Thanks to the kids that stepped up and filled in on the teams that had missing players last week. You all did great.
- Unfortunatly the renovation around the home plate area came out less than ideal. I'm afraid we are stuck with it though until the end of the season. It comes down to being the lesser of 2 evils though as in its previous state it was just too dangerous.

Here's the schedule for Saturday May 7:
10:00 Tee Ball Pirates vs Astros.
11:00 Coach Pitch Tigers vs A's.
12:30 Coach Pitch Orioles vs Phillies.
14:00 Junior Kid Royals vs Blue Jays.
15:30 Junior Kid Braves vs Diamondbacks.
17:00 Senior Kid Brewers vs Cardinals.

I look forward to seeing you all this weekend...

HAPPY SEMANA SANTA

Just a reminder no games for Saturday the 16th and Saturday the 23rd. Next games will be Saturday the 30th. Game times and opponents will be those of the games originally scheduled for the 16th. I'll post them here and your coaches should also send out a reminder prior to the 30th.

Over the next couple weeks we'll be having some work done on the home plate area. Its become so worn down that its become a serious safety hazard. The maintenance team from the school will be digging it out and putting a new surface underneath followed by topping it off with a new layer of baseball dirt. If you all have practices please avoid this area if you see that its a work in progress.

Thanks all and have a Happy Easter.

ISSUES AND SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAY APRIL 9

Here's the update for this week. All very important stuff.

  • The games originally scheduled for Saturday April 16 have been moved to Saturday April 30. No games the 16th. Yes games the 30th.

  • The response to the parents game was kind of mediocre. We will schedule a game for Sunday May 8 at 15:00. With this we'll have enough time to spread the word. If we get enough interest we can see about scheduling more games for the remainder of the season.

  • Paralaccia Due (Avenida Europa 15) has been kind enough to offer a special €10 kids menu for kids wearing their baseball shirt or with coupons from you coaches by email or available at the snack shack.
And here's the schedule for this week

  • 10:00 Tee Ball Pirates vs Astros

  • 11:00 Coach Pitch Phillies vs Tigers

  • 12:30 Coach Pitch A's vs Orioles

  • 14:00 Junior Kid Diamondbacks vs Royals

  • 15:30 Junior Kid National vs Braves

  • 17:00 Senior Kid Brewers vs Cardinals
Thanks and see you Saturday...

PLAN FOR SATURDAY APRIL 2

PARENTS GAME & HOLIDAY WEEKENDS

- Thanks everyone for coming out this past Saturday. It was a little wet and muddy but I'm glad we got in the full schedule of games. Huge thanks to all those that helped get the field playable and to those that were around late to help clean up.
- This week the coaches are going to send out a mail to see who is interested in playing in a parents game. If we get enough interest we can try and set something up for a 1 time game or even make it a weekly event. They'll be asking what your preference is for a morning or afternoon game and how often you'd like to play. If we get enough interest we'll see what we can do.
- This week the coaches will also be asking you about the holiday weekends of April 16, April 23, and April 30. Currently we have games scheduled for the 16th. If a large majority respond by saying they can not make it the 16th but can play on the 30th we'll change the schedule. If we don't get a large majority we'll leave it stand as is. So its important you respond either way. I would hate to miss 3 consecutive Saturdays.

I'll update again later this week. Thanks...

Thursday, March 24, 2011

PLAN FOR SATURDAY MARCH 26

- While its currently been raining a fair bit the weather for this weekend looks good. It will all depend on how much water we get between now and Saturday. If there's any doubt please check with your coaches on Saturday morning.

- We're thinking of getting a semi regular parents game going for those that might be interested. Possible game time would be late afternoon 3:00ish or 4:00ish on Sundays. Nothing has been decided yet but if you're interested please voice your interest at the snack shack duirng the regular game days.

- Assuming the weather cooperates, here's the schedule for the 26th:
10:00 Tee Ball: Pirates vs Astros
11:00 Coach Pitch: Phillies vs A's
12:30 Coach Pitch: Orioles vs Tigers
14:00 Junior Kid: Diamondbacks vs Nationals
15:30 Junior Kid: Braves vs Royals
17:00 Senior Kid: Brewers vs Cardinals

Thanks and hope to see you all this Saturday.

Just a reminder that Saturday night, our own JD will be playing along with the Blue Tones at Soul Station from 10:00 pm to 11:30 pm. Soul Station is located at Cuesta de Santo Domingo 22 (just off Gran Via). It promises to be good fun for anyone interested in beers music and a few laughs following a day of baseball....

Thursday, March 17, 2011

PLAN FOR SATURDAY MARCH 19

Uniform pants should be available for distribution this Saturday so please arrive early if you are on either end of that process.

Tee Ball: Jake advised me that he won't be here this weekend. I'll have the tee ball uniforms to give out. Hopefully there will be a couple other parents available to help coordinate things.

SCHEDULE

12:30 Coach Pitch: Tigers vs Phillies
14:00 Junior Kid: Braves vs Nationals (ex Blue Jays)

THE IDES OF MARCH

We were unlucky with the weather this past weekend. Even though the weather Saturday was mostly ok for this time of year, the field was soaked from the heavy rain Friday and way beyond playable.

The outlook looks better for this week so lets see...

Thursday, March 10, 2011

SCHEDULE WEEK 2 SATURDAY MARCH 12

Wait til you all see the shipment of candy we just got in...

Schedule
10:00-10:45 Tee Ball: Pirates vs Astros
11:00-12:15 Coach Pitch: Tigers vs A's
12:30-13:45 Coach Pitch: Orioles vs Phillies
14:00-15:15 Junior Kid: Royals vs Nationals
15:30-16:45 Junior Kid: Braves vs Diamondbacks
17:00-18:30 Senior Kid: Brewers vs Cardinals

Monday, March 7, 2011

WEEK 1 RECAP

- Thanks everyone for coming out on Saturday. I think we got off to a decent start. The kids looked good on the field, and think we have a pretty good balance on the teams.
- Weather: Just to remind everyone when the weather is doubtful, the procedure is I'll notify the coaches, and then the coaches will notify you all. We'll try and have decisions made as early as possible. In any case if there's any doubt please call either your coaches or myself.
- Uniforms: We're half way there. The pants should be here for distribution this Saturday.
- Food: Thanks everyone for helping to keep the area clean. Please remember that food and drink have to be strictly confined to the baseball seating area.
- Umpires: If you all know anyone thats interested in helping out umpiring please have them get in touch with me.

Thats it for now. I'll post this weeks schedule and any additional news later this week.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

PLAN FOR SATURDAY MARCH 5

- Right now the forceast for Thursday Friday and Saturday looks iffy. If its been raining a lot before Saturday most likely the field will be too wet to play. If any doubt please call your coach.
- If its raining on Saturday the games will be cancelled. If any doubt call your coach....
- If the weather holds we are good to go. The uniforms are in and will be available for distribution from your coaches prior to the game. Please try to arrive a little early to collect them, and if you haven't already done so register and pay.
- This next bit is really important: The school has very kindly allowed us to sell refreshments from the snack shack. As you know they have a very strict no food no drink no gum policy for anywhere on the upper field area. This means that all food and drink must be confined to the baseball sitting area only. Any non compliance, garbage left behind, spillage, or damage to the track and field area and our privelages will be revoked. That means no snack shack -> no funding. No funding -> no baseball.... So please help by only eating / drinking in the seating area, and keeping the area neat.

Thanks and look forward to seeing you all Saturday.

TEAMS

Teams have been picked and are in the hands of the coaches now. Over the next few days the coaches will be contacting you all, introducing themselves, and letting you know what they have planned. If you havent heard anything by next week please contact me.

Please understand that our priorities when making up the teams are safety, balanced teams, coaching availability, siblings, and driving for familes that live outside the immediate area. Accomodating requests for friends to be on the same team prove very difficult to accomodate given the numbers involved and the above priorities that have to come first. I hope you all understand and look at it as an opportunity to expand their circle of friends....

Next- Schedule should be out in a couple days.

Thanks
