SHOUT OUT TO DAVE JOHNSON

Hi All- This is a special shout out and thanks to Dave Johnson. Dave and his family are moving back to the US this week. There's no one that has meant more to and given more of his time to the development of the league than him. He's coached on numerous levels during his time here in Madrid, and given us all the pleasure of seeing kids he's tutored and taught the game to grow up and develop into better players, both on and off the field. I hope you'll take as good memories with you as those you've left behind with all of us. On behalf of all of Madrid League Baseball I'd like to say thanks, we'll miss you, and good luck !

This weather is really starting to get a bit irritating. As hard as it is to believe sitting here looking out the window on a bright sunny Thursday, the forecast for this weekend calls for 70% chance of rain. We'll see....

The weather forecast looks good so we should be dried out and on track with the games scheduled for Saturday March 16.
- Please note the change in game times for Coach Pitch teams.
- Blue Jays from now on you all will be known as the Diamondbacks. Please don't forget to bring your Blue Jay uniforms to exchange for Diamnondback uniforms.
- And Seniors formerly known as Diamondbacks, you will from here on be known as the Rays.
- If you haven't paid the registration fee yet please remember to bring the money this Saturday.

SATURDAY MARCH 9

Hi Everyone- Sorry the field is way too wet. We've had too much rain this week so unfortunately all games are cancelled for today.

Our opening day last Saturday came off pretty well. We had a few hiccups with respect to uniforms but hopefully we'll get those sorted out very soon. The weather was very cooperative which made for a great baseball day. I'm not so sure we're going to be as lucky this week though, ie we won't have to be worrying about drought conditions any time soon. Please check with your coaches to see if we'll be playing or not. I'll try and have a decision by shortly after 9:00 on Saturday.

Please note we've had 2 team name changes. The Machine Pitch team formerly known as the Blue Jays will from here on be known as the Diamondbacks. The Senior team previously known as the Diamondbacks will be known as the Rays from here on.

OPENING DAY SATURDAY MARCH 2

Hi Everyone- The long offseason is about to become a memory and Madrid League Baseball 2013 is about to kick off. I'll start here with a few thoughts and reminders:
- Please keep in mind our goals of good sportsmanship, having fun, safety, and learning from and about the game of baseball. These are our main priorities.
- Thanks to everyone that has helped with getting the league organized. A lot of time and planning has gone on to bring us to this point and its much appreciated.
- The weather is still pretty volatile. If there are any doubts on game day whether we will proceed with the games please call your coach. I will try to arrive at the field by 9:30 and have a decision shortly there after.
- We will distribute the uniforms on a best fit basis. Please do not ask for bigger sizes to allow for growing room.
- By now everyone should have heard from their coaches. If not please contact me !
- Please write your name on all caps, gloves, and anything else that you wouldn't want to lose, and do a short inventory before leaving the field area to make sure you have everything you came with.
- Snack shack will be open. Volunteers will be needed and welcome. Please remember that any and all food and drink consumption will be confined to the baseball seating area only.
- This year there's a lot of construction going on around the school grounds. As such parents will be asked to keep an eye on their kids movements, and limit them to the area immediately surrounding the baseball field. That means no play ground access and absolutely no hanging around the construction zones.
- This year we have 2 more teams than last year. As such we have 1 more game to fit in over the course of the day. We are going to start the season with slightly shorter Coach Pitch games to accomodate the tighter schedule. We ask that everyone please note their game times and arrive early. Games will start and end punctually.
